Allotment in 2009

2009 was a year of change, after the disastrous wet season the previous year we decided to order some scaffolding boards and build raised beds.  At the site we were thought of as frivolous for buying wood rather than acquiring it by a charitable donation or from rustling through skips.  We thought we were being very clever and 3 years on we are proved right.  Scaffolding boards (when treated) last at least 3 years longer than most other plot holders who are seen annually replacing various parts of their much smaller beds - I'm not gloating merely pointing out that if you believe something will work and work better than the "Old tried a tested way" stick with it, experienced allotmenteers can really kick your confidence when you're starting out.

The area below will become Freddy and the Ferrets play areas

We had some interesting vegetables in 2009 and purple cauliflower was one of them.

A particularly unflattering shot of me at the end of gardening day; remember I had been rolling around in soil for several hours!
