Green shoots

The growing season has really started now.  We've had a few harvests of lettuces and radishes, the spring onions are taking a while though, probably due to the lack of rain in the last few weeks

The kohlrabi has started to properly root (back left hand) and the courgette second sowing of beans seem to be doing ok, so long as the weather stays as clement as recent forecasts predict - goodbye frost, hello sunshine!

The picture below shows our rhubarb in flower, next to that is a patch of forgetmenot, chives, mint, thyme and Jerusalem artichoke are all coming along fabulously.

To the left hand side are "the onions".  These are a selection of randomly sprouted last year onions that I dug up and moved to a more suitable location - a spare patch next to the herbs and rhubarb

We've planted several rows of potatoes this year, in all areas of the allotment and around the flower garden area and not in the raised beds, they're having a rest this year!

The fruit is coming along nicely, although the gooseberries are producing new shoots I think I over pruned early this year...they will be fine next year I'm sure:

  1. It must be a good feeling to have ones own vegetables growing in the backyard.

  2. Being able to "pick" your dinner each evening is wonderful - I only wish we could grow like this for the full 12 months of the year! Thank you for reading our blog :-)
