Winter Blues

It's been a wet year all around.  Both summer and winter have been wetter than previous years and unfortunately we were without much sunshine during summer which has compounded the flooded areas turning them into seasonal mangroves - not typical North Yorkshire geography!

I may and really hope I have spoken too soon - as I look out of the window the sun is shining today (along with gusts of 25mph but the sun is still shining); perhaps this year we really will have a summer heat wave!

The last flurry of snow came on Friday night into Saturday last week but with the heavy rains on Sunday morning all trace of winter was gone.  Yesterday I saw Hawthorne bushes already blossoming in the local Valley Gardens so I guess Spring is nearly here.

Our plan for this year's growing will be much the same as last year with fewer brassicas and more salads.

So good luck everyone with your own vegetable gardens as we start planting seeds for another year of disappointment adventure!

I sign off today with a lovely photograph of a rare Red Squirrel which has taken up residence in my parent's garden so they built the family their own house.  :-)
