Comfrey, Fruit and Rhubarb

Although much of the allotment is un-planted this time of year, there are some plants regaining their spring vigour.  The Rhubarb is doing very well in its new position, no doubt due to the effective “scaring”, “George” our scarecrow has been doing.

This garlic was planted in Autumn 2009! - I wonder where it went in 2010?

After two seasons mistaking this for Borage, I can now confirm, after a quick check on google images, it is in fact “Comfrey” - equally useful in the garden just not so good in Pimms!

Update on the fruit cage area.  Yes there is a small patch below still to weed and dig over but almost there.  We have moved the old bushes into their new positions, and added to the collection with a giant black gooseberry; this year is the year of giants with strawberries, garlic and now gooseberries!  Next week Raspberries!

Very useful used clay pebbles donated by garden centre
