Flower garden, blackberries behind the pond.
Whilst the sun continues to shine and we continue to hand water, the plot is beginning to bloom. Worryingly though the foxgloves are starting to wilt in the garden, in 8 years this has never happened despite the having early sunshine over the last 4 years - not too worried the rain usually finds a way of making up for lost time!
The Comfrey patch has grown, the first picture taken at the beginning of April and later 4 weeks later at the end of April:
The row of Romanesco cauliflowers were planted in August 2010, due to the wet weather for the remainder of last summer they didn't develop however, they continued to grow slowly during the winter snow and now they’re flourishing:
We planted red cabbages and baby sweetcorn in this bed:
A lone pumpkin below, we're going to look after this little chap after our disastrous attempt last year:
Look at this whopper of a leek...unfortunately “he’ll” be eaten long before the allotment show, maybe next year:
Jerusalem artichoke is growing back after its division and re-planting. Its very easy to grow, but is prolific - this patch started with 4 tubers 3 years ago and now look how its spread:
We finished the fruit cage in time, lots of baby berries appearing:
Gooseberries
White currants
Under here are various salad leaves, lettuces, radishes, spinach and spring onions. Covered them with fleece and the rabbit netting to protect against any late night frosts and of course the pigeons!
Finally, these are the gigantella strawberries I mentioned in an earlier post, they’re growing at least which is a good start as I have high hopes for these. As the advert states "...eat them like an apple!":
