Sea of cabbages

I spent an hour today cutting the seed heads off the Dock flowers. When we returned from our holiday it looked as though the weeds had won again but after setting about with my trusty secateurs (now 26 years old!) there is light again on the plot - they really do take over!

The cabbages have light again and are flourishing, probably as we've refused to take the netting off this year despite the unattractiveness.  This year we must eat all of our veg and not share it with the cabbage white butterflies, look how pretty and "whole" they are rather than "holey":

 

Sweetcorn isn't looking so great at the moment, the baby sweetcorn at the rear of the image above is healthy just missing flowers and fruit.  Whereas the regular sweetcorn (image below) has experienced great distress whilst we were away and by the looks of it may not recover before the inevitable season composting clear away.
