Happy Chickens

Hetty is so happy she likes to follow me around and supervise!
First the good news.  For anyone that has seen the "Happy Egg" avert on television will understand...our chickens now resemble the definition of the "happy chicken" - Free running, dark red "happy" combs and with glints in their eyes!

Enjoying fruit and capsicum pepper porridge

And now the not so great news - this years harvest.  The first part of the year started well with unseasonably warm weather in March and April which unfortunately didn't continue!  Our pickings  were very slim indeed and consisted of Raspberries in abundance, a late season harvest of courgettes  some leeks (although not the 30 or so we planted likely to reap a total of 5), copious amounts of lettuces, largest spring onions ever and various dodgy potatoes of differing varieties.

Brassica's fared no better, whilst their leaves and stalks grew and grew they forgot to produce any fruit, we were left with a bed of 4ft cauliflower and broccoli ornamental plants!

So in an unusually positive mindset we hypothesize that 2013 couldn't be worse than 2012 ...things can only get better can't they?!  :-)
