The wasps have gone but the chickens have arrived!

The recent heavy downpours have caused a leak in the roof deterring the wasps nest building.  We now have a vacant spot with a decomposing nest (picture to follow, I forgot to take one!).  Our only evidence to this is a slightly wet floor and snail trails on the ceiling next to the old nest!

The ladies gather to discuss Blackberries.

Some time ago we decided we would take on a new flock of Bantam chickens courtesy of my sister's breeding programme however, due to various work and volunteering commitments we're unable to raise our own flock for 7 days a week so I contacted the Allotment site "co-operative" and we start on Sunday 26th August 12!

We are very excited about this, well I am very excited, I haven't cared for chickens since childhood and for my husband this will be a new and welcome skill.

The ladies (pictured above) are looking a little pale in the combs and look a little forlorn generally - My personal challenge is to bring them into good health before end of November.  More pictures will follow...

Earlier this year we mentioned that friends of ours had taken a plot on the same site, well we're very pleased to say their plot is coming on beautifully as the picture below shows:
